Small Garden Ponds - A Beautiful Addition to
Any Home
The popular saying that bigger is better is just
a play on words and definitely not a worry about space when it comes to installing a small pond in your backyard
or front yard.
Putting together some great small pond ideas for
your home, even inside your home is possible.
You've seen little fish tanks, well, small pond
ideas are within the realm of possibilities. It just takes some creativity.
To start, you probably do not want to add koi
fish to your pond. Due to the smaller space, goldfish are a good place to start.
The fact is a smaller pond can be a
lot less hassle and quite simple to maintain.
Small Pond Ideas for Indoor Living
The sound of running water has a very nice
effect on our senses. There are many water features or waterfall features that you can install inside or outside
for your pond. Depending on where you install your pond, you will need to make sure the water feature will be
able to endure the outside elements.
In our case, we had to make sure our waterfall
feature was not where our cat could drink out of it. And it wasn't good for the pond fishes as well. Why??
Because the waterfall had parts inside that were constructed with an epoxy glue and it was poisonous to our cat.
So, what is not good for the cat is also not good for the fish.
So, just remember that having moving water doesn't have to mean it is running water to
and from your waterfall into your pond water. You can do the same when it comes to adding plant life. Plant life
can be part of the pond or not a part of the pond. It can be real plants of fake.
You can even have a pond without fish if the sound of water is all that you
really are looking for. Without fish you really have very little to worry about when it comes to
maintenance.
So, let's take a look at some of the small pond ideas you can consider before building a pond
inside or outside your home.
1. What to consider:
Will it have fish? If so, how much space will
the type of fish you place into the pond need? What type of fish get along and what types of fish do
not?
Koi in many cases need to be of the same size
and without other fish around especially if it is a smaller pond.
2. Do you want life plants or
fake?
With life plants you need to consider how they
will be effected by their surroundings. Will the plant life create issues with the maintenance of the pond? Will
you be dealing with weeds, falling leaves and other types of debrie. Will the plants need constant water flowing
over them?
If you decide to have fake plants, what types of
plants should and should not be near any live fish in your pond? Are there any contaminating elements on the
fake plants that could contaminate the water?
3. Are there trees or bushes that will create a
problem? If so, what can you preinstall into the design of the pond to lesson the problems caused by falling
leaves and so forth.
It is not hard to come up with a lot of small
pond ideas if you take some of the issues and brain storm a bit.
The main thought here is to think before you
create. There are a lot of things to consider when it comes to installing a pond inside or outside your
home.
